High Performance Heavy Duty Grease

Shell Gadus S2 U460L grease is based on an inorganic non-soap thickener and a specially selected base oil. Provides satisfactory lubrication at temperatures where lithium greases cannot be used.

Shell Gadus S2 U460L grease uses high-quality, deeply refined mineral oil with high viscosity and excellent resistance to oxidation and evaporation. Oxidation resistance is further enhanced by the addition of a special high temperature oxidation inhibitor.

  • Recommended for use in bearings operating in the temperature range from -20 °C to 180 °C .
  • Shell Gadus S2 U460L provides good service life in many applications where expensive synthetic or silicone lubricants would otherwise be required.
  • The specially selected high viscosity base oil used in Shell Gadus S2 U460L grease makes it particularly suitable for the lubrication of heavily loaded, low-speed bearings.
  • Under certain conditions, Shell Gadus S2 U460L grease can be used at temperatures exceeding 2000C, provided that appropriate relubrication intervals are selected.

    · Operating temperature range

    A serious limitation for many high temperature greases is the type of organic soap used as a thickener. Soaps melt at high temperatures, destroying the structure of the lubricant - the consistency of the lubricants and the possibility of lubrication are significantly reduced. The special inorganic thickener contained in Shell Gadus S2 U460L grease is free from any melting restrictions. Ensures stable evaporation and oxidation of the base oil and helps extend grease life and increase operating temperature.

    · Relubrication

    Grease life varies significantly depending on the application, even for bearings operating under identical nominal conditions. Variables such as airflow, contamination and humidity can have a significant impact on grease life as well as load, rotational speed and temperature.
    The expected life of the grease will be lower under less favorable operating conditions.
    Recommendations should be checked during trial tests and modified, as necessary, based on service experience.
    Bearing housings should preferably be able to completely remove the grease when relubricating. Alternatively, the bearing should be dismantled during periodic maintenance and the grease used should be completely replaced.
