Lubrication of gears and gear wheels
There are many different types of gears, including spur gears, helical gears, bevel gears, and worm gears. Whether the gears are part of a transmission that transfers motion from one shaft to another, redirects motion through a gearbox, or moves fluid through a pump, it is important that these gears operate smoothly.
Evolving technology is looking to specialty lubricants to increase design flexibility, such as weight reduction, selection of alternative materials to reduce noise and improve performance, safety and comfort, and to prevent failures due to surface fatigue, scoring, pitting, abrasion, wear, corrosive wear, and tooth breakage or damage.
Selected products have been developed using special base oils and additives that not only protect gear teeth from damage but also reduce friction.
