DOWSIL™ PR-1200 RTV Prime Coat RED

Red primer for silicones

General purpose kerosene-based primer for use with all silicone elastomers and RTV. It also improves the adhesion of some one-component silicone sealants and coatings to various building materials such as plywood, masonry and metal.

Application Applications

  • Clear general purpose kerosene based primer for use with all silicone elastomers and RTV.
  • improves the bonding/adhesion of silicones to many materials:
    • Metals
    • Ceramics
    • Glasses
    • Stone
    • Plastics

Features and Benefits

  • Increases the adhesion of many moisture-cured and heat-cured RTV silicones
  • increases flexibility and reduces design costs
  • increases the operational reliability of PCB assemblies

How to use

  • Apply a very light, even layer by wiping, dipping or spraying.
  • Excess material should be wiped off to avoid overapplication.
  • Diluting 2 to 4 times with additional solvent may prevent excessive buildup

Surface preparation

The active ingredients must thoroughly moisten and cover the surfaces to be bonded. Surfaces should be cleaned and/or degreased with kerosene, white spirit, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or other suitable solvents. Allow solvents to evaporate completely before applying primer.

Processing/curing

These products require airborne moisture to cure and typically cure at a room temperature and relative humidity range of 20 to 90 percent for 1 to 2 hours. Low humidity and/or low temperature require longer curing time. Light heating increases cure rates, but temperatures above 60°C (140°F) are not recommended.

Once the primer has been primed and hardened, apply the desired silicone elastomer
