DOWSIL™ 7094 Flowable Sealant - 310ml Black
Liquid sealant, self-leveling low modulus silicone, black
Used to repair the back sheets of photovoltaic panels
DOWSIL™ 7094 Flowable Sealant cures under ambient conditions into a highly durable elastomer, building chemical adhesion and acting as an electrical insulator. Once cured, it provides insulation restoration and protection against water ingress and UV sunlight.
Due to the excellent durability of silicone sealants, with proven outdoor stability for over 50 years, this product offers a long-term, reliable repair solution.
Application:
DOWSIL™ 7094 Liquid Sealant has been developed for the protection, durability and decoration of building and photovoltaic (PV) applications where high durability, safety and flexibility are important. The high temperature and UV resistance of this coating make it suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.
Sealer 7094 is an efficient and long-lasting solution for both field repair of PV modules that have shown degradation of the backing,
and factory backsheet protection.
- Sealing and bonding where low viscosity and self-leveling properties are required in combination with non-corrosive curing
- Designed for applications that require a strong but flexible bond, such as when joining materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion, e.g. glass to metal or glass to plastic
- Low modulus formula for high mobility
- Sealing gaps where flexible grouting is required
Features and Benefits:
- One-component sealant
- It cures at room temperature under the influence of atmospheric moisture
- Alkoxy curing system
- Smooth and self-leveling
- Easy to apply
- Excellent primerless adhesion to many substrates
- Stable and flexible from -50°C to +180°C
- Does not corrode metals
- Weak smell
- Unprimed adhesion to various substrates
Benefits of applications in photovoltaics
- Reliably fills cracks in the backing - including deep cracks
- Restores electrical insulation resistance
- Can be applied by brush or spray in the field - no disassembly of the unit required
- Good adhesion to co-extruded polyamide ("AAA") as well as other commonly used backsheets (including PVF, PET or PVDF backsheets)
- Short curing time
- Highly durable material, leading to a long service life

How to use
Substrate preparation
All surfaces must be clean and dry. Degrease and wash off any impurities weakening adhesion. Suitable solvents include isopropyl alcohol, acetone or methyl ethyl ketone. Unprimed adhesion can be achieved on many substrates, such as glass, metals (e.g. steel, aluminum) and most engineering plastics (e.g. polyamide, polycarbonate). Adhesion may be less effective with some low energy plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE.
How to Apply
DOWSIL™ 7094 Liquid Sealant is ready to use. Apply a sufficient amount of DOWSIL™ 7094 Flowable Sealant to one of the prepared surfaces, then quickly coat the other substrate to be bonded.
Curing time
If exposed to moisture, the freshly applied material will "skin" in approximately 25 minutes at room temperature and 50% relative humidity. Any processing should be completed prior to this crust formation. The surface can be easily treated with a spatula. The sealant will become dry after approximately 50 minutes. Full hardening of the 2mm joint occurs after 24 hours.

Application in photovoltaic panels
PV back sheet "backsheet" is a photovoltaic laminate that is designed to protect the internal components of the module, in particular photovoltaic cells and electrical components from external stresses, UV radiation, moisture and weather conditions, and also act as an electrical insulator.
To achieve this, the solar panel material is protected already during production or in the case of subsequent service repairs, the resulting cracks are glued and sealed with Dowsil 7094 liquid silicone.
- Clean the surface of the bottom layer. The type of cleaning depends on the degree of soiling and the degree and type of degradation of the backing layer. In general, the following cleaning procedure is sufficient: wipe the surface of the backing with a damp cloth and then with a dry cloth.
- Apply DOWSIL™ 7094 Liquid Sealant with a squeegee, brush or spray gun.
- Immediately smooth the layer with a spatula, pressing lightly with gentle force to push the sealant into the gaps.
- Leave to harden
