    Durability and Storage

When stored in cool, dry conditions below 30°C (86°F) in the original, unopened containers, DOWSIL™ 798 Cold Room Silicone Sealant has a usable life of 12 months from the date of packaging.
    date of production.

    How to use

When designing joints using DOWSIL™ 796 Neutral Silicone, the minimum joint width should be 6 mm. For joints between 6 and 12 mm wide, a seal depth of 6 mm is required. For joints greater than 12 mm wide, a width to depth ratio of 2:1 should be used.

    Preparation of the substrate

Ensure that the surfaces to be sealed are clean, dry, sound and free of dust, release agents and other contaminants that may impair adhesion. All non-porous surfaces should be cleaned and degreased by wiping with a suitable solvent such as DOWSIL™ R-40. Porous
Surfaces such as concrete, brick and mortar must be cleaned mechanically.

    Masking / Protection

Areas adjacent to joints should be masked with tape to prevent contamination of the substrate and to ensure a clean sealant line. Masking tape should be removed immediately after application.

    Processing / Finishing

The joint should be tooled within 5 minutes of application to ensure good contact between the sealant and the substrate. Tooling the sealant also provides a smooth, professional finish.

    Cleaning

Excess sealant can be removed in its uncured state using DOWSIL™ R-40 All-Purpose Cleaner. If the sealant is improperly applied to porous substrates, it should be allowed to cure completely and then mechanically removed.

    Limitations

Do not use DOWSIL™ 798 Silicone Sealant on bituminous, natural rubber, chloroprene or EPDM based substrates or on building materials and flexible plastics which may bleed oils, plasticizers or solvents.
Special tests should be performed on sensitive substrates. DOWSIL™ 798 is not recommended for structural glazing or insulating glass applications.
