Description of silicone fluids used for polishing

Viscosities commonly used in the formulation of polishes range from 100 to 30,000 cSt. For optimum results in terms of ease of application and depth of gloss, it is recommended to use a mixture of low viscosity and high viscosity fluid (e.g. 3 parts XIAMETER™ PMX-200 Silicone Fluid 100 cSt and 1 part XIAMETER™ PMX-200 Silicone Fluid 12 500 cSt).

The low-viscosity silicone fluid acts as a lubricant for easy application and wiping, while the high-viscosity silicone fluid provides a greater depth of shine. Because these polymers are hydrophobic in nature, they cause water droplets to collect on the treated surface rather than penetrate the polishing coating.

How to use PMX-200 silicone fluid

XIAMETER PMX-200 50-1000 cSt silicone fluid is highly soluble in organic solvents such as aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and halocarbon propellants used in aerosols. The liquid easily emulsifies in water using standard emulsifiers and normal emulsifying techniques.

XIAMETER PMX-200 silicone fluid, 50-1000 cSt is insoluble in water and many organic products. Additive amounts as low as 0.1% may be sufficient when XIAMETER PMX-200, 50-1000 cSt Silicone Liquid is to be used as a surfactant or to de-soap creams and lotions. However, for applications such as hand creams and lotions, 1-10% is needed to create a more uniform layer and an effective barrier.

Shelf life and storage

The product should be stored at temperatures up to 60°C (140°F) in original, unopened containers.
