LOCTITE® 2400

Anaerobic threadlocker - medium disassembly

LOCTITE® 2400 is a medium release threadlocker that prevents loosening of parts subject to vibration. Works on all metals and passive substrates.

The product cures when contact with the air is cut off, when it is placed between closely adhering metal surfaces. The product prevents
loosening of connections and leaks under static and dynamic loads.
LOCTITE® 2400™ reduces the flow of liquid product.

Applications Application

LOCTITE® 2400™ is designed to lock and seal threaded connections where service removal with common tools is required.
LOCTITE® 2400™ is particularly suitable for less active surfaces such as stainless steel and zinc flake or zinc plated surfaces where removal with hand tools is required.

  • threaded connections
  • mounting bolts for pumps, gearboxes or works
  • nuts
  • pegs

Typical Curing Course

Curing speed depending on the material The hardening speed depends on the material used. The graph below shows the breaking strength @ 23°C on M10 steel bolts and nuts over time compared to other materials. Tests performed in accordance with ISO 10964.

Curing speed depending on the gap

The hardening speed depends on the size of the joint. Gaps in threaded connections depend on the type, quality and size of the thread. The graph below shows the shear strength developed with time at @ 23°C on steel pins and sleeves at various controlled gaps. Tests performed in accordance with the ISO 10123 standard.

Curing speed depends on temperature

The hardening speed depends on the temperature. The graph below shows the breaking strength developed over time at different temperatures relative to @ 23°C on M10 steel bolts and nuts. Tests performed in accordance with the ISO 10964 standard.

Curing speed depending on the activator

If curing takes too long or if there are too large gaps, you can speed up the curing process by applying an activator to the surface beforehand. The graph below shows the breaking strength over time at @ 23°C on M10 zinc dichromate steel nuts and bolts using
SF 7471™ or SF 7649™ activator. Tests performed in accordance with the ISO 10964 standard

GENERAL INFORMATION

This product is not recommended for use in pure oxygen and/or oxygen rich devices; nor should it be used for installations containing chlorine or other strongly oxidizing materials.

Installation

  1. For best bonding results, clean all surfaces (exterior and interior) with LOCTITE® remover and allow to dry.
  2. If the hardening speed is too slow, use an appropriate activator. For reference, please refer to the Cure Speed vs. Chart. Activator. When necessary, allow the activator to evaporate.
  3. Shake the packaging before using the product.
  4. To prevent the dispensing nozzle from clogging, do not allow the nozzle to come into contact with metal surfaces during application.
  5. Through holes: apply a few drops of the product to the screw threads where the nut will be tightened.
  6. Filling blind holes, apply a few drops of the product to the lower part of the internal thread in the third of the hole height or to the bottom of the blind hole.
  7. Thread sealing, apply the product around the external threads, leaving the first thread uncovered. Apply the product so that it completely covers the threads. For larger threads and gaps, you need to use correspondingly more product and also apply it around the internal thread.
  8. Assemble the connector and tighten as required

Disassembly

  1. Unscrew the connector using hand tools.
  2. If the joint is too strong, heat it (nut or bolt) to a temperature of approx. 250 °C. Hot spin.

Cleaning

  1. The hardened product can be removed with LOCTITE® solvent or mechanically, e.g. with a wire brush.

Storage

Unless otherwise indicated on the product label, the ideal way to store it is to leave it in closed containers in a cool and dry place. Optimal storage temperature: 8 °C to 21 °C.
Storing at temperatures below 8 °C or above 28 °C may irreversibly change the properties of the product.
